Your 9-to-5 job isn't bad at all

Social media creates unnecessary hatred towards regular jobs. A 9-to-5 gives you salary, insurance, stability, and cool people to work with. Don't hate it just because others quit theirs on Instagram.

Whenever I scroll through social media, I see at least one post or story of someone breaking the shackles of their corporate 9-to-5 job to follow their passion. I’ve even done it once, you know…quit the job to follow my passion. My passion was photography. I followed the template to the tee. I quit my entry-level corporate job to follow my passion.

I was able to do really well for some time. But things didn’t turn out to be as magical as it looked on those social platforms.

Then I came back to my 9-to-5 job and I started loving it. I realized that social media creates an unnecessary hatred towards regular jobs and creates this magical idea about entrepreneurship.

If you ask me, a 9-to-5 job is the best thing that has happened to humanity. You get paid. You get salary hikes. You get health insurance for you and your family. You get to work in a nice office with all the facilities. You’re protected from minor economic fluctuations. Banks trust you more when you’re a salaried employee. You get gifts for the holiday season. And most of all, you get to work with some really cool people.

People might say, “I don’t like working under a boss”. Well, if you’re an entrepreneur, every customer is your boss, and you’re answerable to each one. I’m not against entrepreneurship. I’m working on multiple side projects at the moment. I love doing something on my own.

All I’m saying is, don’t hate your job just because you see others do it on social media. Realize that you’re playing the long game when you choose to follow your passion. It will be hard, and you’ll have to sacrifice all the benefits of a regular job.

My philosophy is, experiment on various ideas while you’re at your regular job. Prepare yourself. Save up some money to support you and your family when you start your entrepreneurial journey. And only when you’re absolutely sure about starting something and running it full time, quit your 9-to-5 job.
