Be Happy When Your Idea Gets Stolen
Your idea is not unique — thousands are thinking the same thing. Be grateful someone executed it. Have faith your next idea will be just as good.
I was discussing this with a friend over a drink last week.
Your idea, whatever it may be, is not unique. Chances are, thousands of people around the world are thinking about the same thing simultaneously.
That might have touched a nerve for some of you. I get it. But that’s the truth. We all would’ve come across at least one life-changing idea at some point in our lives. We would’ve strongly believed that it had the potential to take us to the next level.
But, we never act on them. The majority of us often give up on the idea due to various reasons. We think of pursuing it after a major life event — say after completing our degree, after getting married, or after saving a certain amount from our regular job, and the list goes on. We drop the idea because we think it is impossible or don’t know how to go about executing it. We also drop the idea because of our laziness.
But, a small portion of us goes to extreme lengths to execute the idea. It might include quitting their jobs, putting in all their savings, and even severing relationships to pursue that idea.
Don’t be angry when you see someone succeed with the same idea as you. Don’t feel like they’ve taken something away from you. You both (and a few other unknowns) had the chance, but one of you put in the extra effort to make it happen.
Be grateful that someone took the initiative to bring your idea to life. Celebrate the fact that your idea has been embraced and appreciated by the world. Have faith that your next idea will be as revolutionary as the last one and you have every chance to make it a success. Put in the effort and work on your next idea.
